Work out what you actually need before you book
13 comparisons, each answering one real decision.
Most people arrive knowing roughly what they want and not what it is called. These pages exist to close that gap — including the ones where the honest answer is that you do not need to hire anybody.
Group 01
Which service do I need?
Two services that sound similar, and the situation each one is actually built for.
Move-in cleaning vs move-out cleaning
6 min readWhich end of the move are you cleaning?
Move-out is graded by somebody else against a standard. Move-in is graded by you, so you feel comfortable unpacking. The scopes overlap heavily; the difference is who is judging and what happens next.
Apartment cleaning vs house cleaning
6 min readDoes a smaller home mean a smaller cleaning job?
Not proportionally, no. Apartments concentrate usage rather than reducing it, and pricing follows bathroom count and condition far more closely than floor area. Expect an apartment to cost less than a house, but not half as much.
Airbnb turnover cleaning vs move-out cleaning
6 min readSomebody has left the property — which clean is it?
A turnover happens between guests, in a furnished property, against a same-day window. A move-out happens once, in an empty property, against an inspection. Booking one as the other produces a poor result in both directions.
Post-construction cleaning vs deep cleaning
6 min readIs this construction dust, or built-up household soil?
Check the top of a door frame and inside a window track. Fine pale dust means post-construction cleaning, which is scoped for repeat passes. Anything else means a deep clean. Booking a deep clean after building work is the most common expensive mistake in this category.
Group 02
How often should I book?
Frequency decisions, including what each recurring discount is actually worth.
One-time cleaning vs recurring cleaning
6 min readCommit to a schedule, or book a single visit?
Book one-time if you have a specific occasion — guests, a handover, a finished remodel. Book recurring if the problem is that the house keeps getting away from you, because a schedule costs less per visit and holds the result.
Weekly vs biweekly house cleaning
7 min readSeven days between visits, or fourteen?
Go weekly if you have pets, young children, four or more people, or large hard-floor areas. Otherwise biweekly is enough, and it is what most Plano households settle on. Weekly carries a 20% recurring discount; biweekly carries 15%.
Biweekly vs monthly house cleaning
6 min readFourteen days between visits, or a full month?
Monthly works for one or two occupants with no pets who handle the daily wipe-downs themselves. Everyone else should be on biweekly. Biweekly carries a 15% recurring discount; monthly carries 10%.

Commercial terminology
Words the cleaning industry uses loosely, and what they mean when you are buying.
Commercial cleaning vs office cleaning
5 min readAre you buying a category, or a specific facility type?
Office cleaning is a subset of commercial cleaning, not a competing service. If your premises is a professional office, go to the office page. If it is a store, restaurant, church, school or anything else, start at the commercial page.
Janitorial services vs commercial cleaning
5 min readTwo industry terms — which describes what you need?
In practice the terms overlap heavily and are often used interchangeably. Where a useful distinction exists, janitorial usually means routine, high-frequency upkeep, while commercial cleaning is the broader umbrella including periodic and specialized work.

Who should I hire?
Four genuine alternatives to a local cleaning company, and where each one wins.
Hiring a cleaning service vs cleaning it yourself
7 min readPay somebody, or do it yourself?
If you have the time and do not mind the work, doing it yourself is cheaper and perfectly adequate for most homes. Hiring makes sense when time is genuinely scarce, when the house has drifted past the point of catching up, or for the specific jobs where method and equipment beat effort.
Cleaning company vs independent house cleaner
6 min readHire an individual, or a company with a team behind it?
A good independent cleaner is hard to beat on continuity and price, and plenty of people are very happy with one. A company is worth it when you need cover during illness and vacations, formal insurance and vetting, scale for larger or commercial work, or somebody accountable other than the person holding the mop.
Local cleaning company vs national franchise
5 min readDoes a national brand behind the local operator help you?
Most franchises are locally owned and operated, so the practical difference is smaller than the branding suggests. National brands offer recognisable standards and easier multi-city coverage. Independent local companies typically offer more scheduling flexibility and a shorter route to a decision-maker. Compare the local operator, not the logo.
Cleaning service vs booking through an app
6 min readBook through a marketplace platform, or hire a company directly?
Apps are convenient, fast to book and often cheap, which suits a one-off clean well. A company is worth it when you want the same cleaners returning, a scope you can hold somebody to, and a single accountable party if something goes wrong.
About these pages
How they are written
Each comparison answers one decision and only that decision. Where two options are close, we say so. Where one is clearly better for a particular household, we say that too — including when the better option is not hiring a cleaning company at all.
We do not publish comparisons against named competitors. Doing that responsibly requires current, publicly verifiable information about another company’s pricing, insurance, vetting and guarantees, and inventing or guessing any of it would be worse than not publishing at all. The category comparisons above cover the real alternatives without putting words in anybody else’s mouth.
